Toyota Supra gets a manual transmission

Toyota has confirmed that the Supra sports coupe will get a manual transmission, which enthusiasts have been hoping for since the model premiered at the Detroit Motor Show in 2019.

According to the Japanese company, the gearbox will be specifically adapted for this model, ie it will not be simply borrowed from BMW, like the current eight-speed automatic unit. Supra shares the platform with its sister model the BMW Z4, including its six-cylinder and four-cylinder engines.

The German company combines these engines with manual transmissions in some soy models, and the Z4 is one of them. Toyota has not yet confirmed that a manual transmission will be available for both units.

The Supra with the new gearbox will have a name written in red letters instead of the standard black, which will visually distinguish it from the model with automatic transmission.

Toyota said more information will be known in the coming weeks.
