Toyota Prius – fifth generation

Toyota presented the fifth generation of the Prius model, which will be available in Europe with a plug-in hybrid drive that includes a two-liter gasoline engine with four cylinders. The total power of the system is 220 HP, which is a full 100 HP more than the previous model, which used a 1.8 liter engine.

The Plag-in hybrid Prius is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 13.6 kW, which is located under the rear seats. Toyota announced that the autonomy has increased by 50% compared to the current generation, which should amount to a little more than 94km. The new Prius will optionally be available with a solar roof panel.

The declared acceleration from 0-100km/h is 6.7 seconds, and consumption has been kept at the level of the previous model despite the increase in power and is around 1.3l/100km, with CO2 emissions of 29g/km. In electric mode, the vehicle can travel about 50% more kilometers than before, that is, about 96 km.

Technical data on battery charging time and other specifications will be published on December 5, when the official presentation will be held.

In terms of aesthetics, the new Prius looks refreshed and compact. The vehicle is lower by 50mm and shorter by 46mm, while its width has increased by 22mm.

The cabin adopts a stylistic language called “island architecture with three zones: the environment, the driver’s module and the floating instrument panel.” The cabin looks similar to that of the bZ4X crossover, with a central screen that rises from the center segment. The only physical control is the rainbow in the lower right corner of the screen.

Since the premiere of this model in 1997, Toyota has sold 5.05 million units worldwide.
