Collections of Toyota Prius and Prius PHV in the home market were the first models to receive the new Acceleration Suppression System from July 1. In the series, this system is called Plus Support. At the same time, the Japanese revealed some interesting details. For example, for Plus Support to be on guard, you need to unlock the door with the special Plus Support Smart Key. If you open the car with a simple key fob, then Plus Support remains idle. Thus, the driver has a choice, depending on how confident he is on the road (parents can give this Plus Support key to their child or the rental office to the client).
The Plus Support device responds to a sharp and hard accelerator pedal. If electronics believes that there is no reason to accelerate so dramatically, it suppresses this acceleration (the accelerator simply does not work). This prevents this type of accident when an inexperienced driver simply confuses the pedals. But Plus Support does not intervene if the turn signal is turned on (overtaking situation with changing the occupied lane, leaving the yard, turning at the intersection), if the car starts moving up and if the accelerator is pressed less than two seconds after the brake (start when the green light comes on at the traffic light )
In addition to the factory equipment of the machines with the new system already on the conveyor (after the Prius it will gradually be distributed across the model range) Toyota has developed an analogue for already produced cars – this is an additional unit for 38,500 yen (25,280 rubles). The device is called the “Pedal Misapplication Acceleration Control System II” and will first be placed on the Priuses by order of owners issued from December 2015 to June 2020. In November 2020, this system can be ordered for the Sai model, released from October 2009 to February 2018, and in January 2021 for Crown sedans manufactured from February 2008 to December 2012, and Mark X, released from October 2009 to November 2016.
