Toyota develops modular fuel cell system

Toyota Motor Corporation has just announced the development of a new module that integrates a fuel cell system (Fuel Cell (FC)) compact.

This new module can be easily used by companies that develop and manufacture FC products for different applications, both for mobility, such as trucks, buses, trains and ships, as well as for projects with fixed generators.

The compact modular fuel cell system was designed based on technologies that the Japanese automaker has perfected over time through the development of FC (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV)) electric vehicles such as the Toyota Mirai and the bus SORA.

According to Toyota, the 3 main characteristics of this new modular system are the following:

  1. Very versatile and easy to install
  2. Excellent safety / reliability and support structure, for added peace of mind during use
  3. Excellent basic performance (great power and economic efficiency)

The new module will be offered in four models according to its shape and power:

  • 2 Vertical (Type I), with a power of 60 kW or 80 kW
  • 2 Horizontal (Type II), with a power of 60 or 80 kW.

The commercialization of this new fuel cell system will take place shortly, in the spring (northern hemisphere) of this year.
