Top-line launches a new environmentally conscious concept

The experienced furniture manufacturer is seriously kicking off the group’s latest shot at the trunk – a concept that offers furniture and interior design with green care.

It was at a quarterly meeting in 2019 that Top-linefounder and now chairman of the board, Svend Ø. Pedersen, informed his employees that a green branch of the group had been born, that it was called ‘Minding’, and that it manifested the first big step in a green transition and a more sustainable business – on several plan.

“That we soon had to do something was very clear to me in the autumn of 2019. At that time, a certain Greta really made her mark on the climate debate. It set in motion the idea of sustainability on several levels, and that we are guaranteed not to survive in the long term if we do not work hard towards a more sustainable business model – and thus also a more financially sustainable business, “explains the Top-line founder

Here it is especially world goals nos. 8, 12 and 13 – ie decent jobs and economic growth, responsible consumption and overproduction as well as climate efforts, to which memory can initially contribute.

The best is the worst enemy of the good

However, care – also the green of its kind – is not new at Top-line. For it has always been crucial for Svend Ø. Pedersen that the production of his furniture goes hand in hand with respect for people and the environment. For the same reason, this year the manufacturer is celebrating its 10th anniversary as ISO 14001 certified. At minding, of course, he sets the bar even higher. However, with an awareness that the road to a 100% sustainable business is a process – and a long one of a kind. The goal for Minding is therefore to be better.

“As you know, the best is the worst enemy of the good, and you have to start somewhere. In Minding’s case, however, we do not start from scratch as seen with green glasses. Durability and consideration for the environment have always been part of the design philosophy at Top-line – even before we became ISO 14001 certified in 2011. For high quality and a long service life, the core of our products. Of course, these standards live on in memory, which also functions as a kind of ‘green laboratory’ for the rest of the group, ”says Svend Ø. Pedersen.

Furniture with attitude

At Minding, they strive to use only fabric and leather from C02-neutral and ISO 14001-certified sources. The gentle materials also originate primarily from Danish and European manufacturers. This applies to both the FSC-labeled wood, the chrome-free leather, the Waterlily foam, the fabric made from recycled plastic and – last but not least – the cork, which is one of the world’s most environmentally friendly materials and also an area of expertise for the new company.

Due to the many qualities of the material, cork plays a major role in many of Minding’s products and interior design solutions such as floors, wallpaper and panels. For that part of the business, they have allied themselves with Inventa, which with 70 years of experience is some of Denmark’s most skilled manufacturers of furniture for shops, offices and hotels.

A little at a time – made as locally as possible!

At Minding, they strive to produce and source as locally as possible to protect the environment. All their designer chairs are therefore 100% ‘Made in Denmark’. The same applies to the vast majority of materials except the cork, which originates from Portugal. In addition, to minimize overproduction and waste of resources, they produce only small batches at a time.

Meet minding in Stockholm

Minding was launched at Stockholm Light & Furniture Fair 2020 just before the COVID-19 shutdown. This was done in collaboration with PortoCork, an agent for one of the world’s leading producers of cork. By February, they are back in Stockholm with cork in many shades and their designer chairs – maybe even with the Touro chair in a Nordic Ecolabelled version.
