Tom Hanks considers this his “most shameful” film, but he has no regrets (VIDEO)
Tom Hanks is one of the most famous actors today, who starred in some of the most successful films in history. But one considers his film particularly bad.
In 2001, the famous actor revealed to O, The Oprah Magazine that the worst movie he ever made was The Bonfire of the Vanities from the 1990s, based on the novel by Tom Wolfe. Directed by Brian De Palma, the film stars Hanks as investment banker Sherman McCoy who finds himself in trouble after his lover mistakenly kills an African-American teenager.
Although it had great potential, The Bonfire of the Vanities was a commercial and critical failure, and the film currently has a low positive critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes of 16 percent. Hanks called the film “the biggest piece of shit” he’s ever made, as well as “one of the most embarrassing movies ever made.” Still, he doesn’t regret filming it.
“If I hadn’t gone through that experience, I would have lost something valuable. That film was a fascinating endeavor from the start. He was larger than life and for some reason he attracted a lot of attention,” said the actor, adding that it was very difficult for him to get into the role of Sherman McCoy because he is the complete opposite.
He believes that he made only four good films
Hanks recently revealed that he thinks there are only four films in his career that he considers “pretty good,” Index reports.
“No one knows how to make a movie, even though everyone thinks they do.” I’ve made a bunch of movies, and four of them are pretty good, or so I think. I’m still amazed at how the films come together. From the idea to the image flickering on the screen, the whole process is a miracle,” Hanks told People, adding that “filmmaking is a very hard job that takes a long time.” However, he did not want to reveal the titles of his four favourites.
