The 28th Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) was opened with a solemn ceremony at the Sarajevo National Theater. The beginning of the festival’s film magic was marked by the screening of the film “Triangle of Sorrow” by Ruben Ostlund, who was previously awarded the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in a full Koka-Cola Summer Cinema.
This author, who was called the “king of horror”, can be proud of the fact that he is a double winner of the Palme d’Or in Cannes, at this year’s edition, as well as in 2017 for the film “Square”.
The honorary Heart of Sarajevo was also awarded to Ukrainian director, screenwriter and producer Sergej Loznica, whose retrospective of selected films will be shown as part of the festival program Dedicated.
The honor of leading the opening ceremony of the 28th SFF went to Bosnian actress Helena Vuković, and the overall atmosphere of the first day of the festival was traditionally marked by crowds, loud music from cafes and gardens, parades of guests on the Red Carpet, and the rush for tickets to movies and masterclasses.
A good introduction to the movie “Triangle of Sadness” was also the situation at the red carpet, where security turned away both those dressed in gowns and suits, as well as those who followed the “business dress code” recommendation, “because they were told so.”
The confirmation of the invitations didn’t help either, and a similar scene of discomfort, when the switchboard in the hall picks you up, because your place is objectively somewhere else or maybe you’re being moved because you simply don’t belong where you settled, was evoked at the very beginning of Ostlund’s performance.
A little before midnight in Sarajevo, traditionally, a long and noisy fireworks display was announced, and a rich program has already been announced for today.
In “Takmičarski”, the first film to be shown is “Ballad” directed by Aida Begić, in which the main roles are played by Marija Pikić, Jasna Žalica, Milan Tocinovski, Lana Stanišić and Slaven Vidak.
The announced and highly anticipated masterclass of director, film critic, and one of the greatest Hollywood screenwriters, Paul Schroeder, which was scheduled for today, has been postponed, most likely, to August 18.
Today’s masterclass will be held by director Ruben Ostlund, the author of “Triangle of Sorrow”.
At the Festival, 235 films from 62 countries will be shown in 19 programs, 54 of which will have their world premiere. A total of 51 films will compete for the Heart of Sarajevo awards in the Competition Programs.
This year’s 28th Srajevo Film Festival will be held from August 12 to 19.
