Those issued in 2019 and 2020 were not used. Vouchers that should have been issued this year will be issued next year

Prime Minister Florin Cîțu declared, on Wednesday, during a press conference, that the reason why the budget holders will no longer receive holiday vouchers in 2021 is that those issued in 2019 and 2020 have not been used.

“In Romania today the holiday vouchers issued in 2019 and those from 2020 have been extended, which means that in the economy there are 2.4 billion lei holiday vouchers that have not been used, because you know very well, on the one hand the industry tells us that last year there was a crisis, so holiday vouchers could not be used, on the other hand (…) we allowed them to be used this year. Therefore, the holiday vouchers that should have been issued this year will be issued next year and we have this savings in the budget “, Cîțu explained.

The National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT) protested on Wednesday against the Government’s decision to eliminate the holiday vouchers for 2021, one month after the representatives of the Executive approved by emergency ordinance the extension of the program.

The association is, in a press release, “extremely intrigued” by the current Government decision to eliminate the granting of holiday vouchers for 2021. The association’s representatives claim that countries with a tourist tradition, such as Switzerland and France, grant holiday vouchers of dozens for years, and others, such as the Czech Republic, have announced that they want to implement such a program to revive domestic tourism and restore the workforce.
