Thistle butterfly is the decoration of late summer Science

In late summer, thistle butterflies may be fattened everywhere – even if the species does not even overwinter in Finland.

Favorable air currents brought the first arrivals as early as mid-April, and in the warm months of May they came in. Those individuals are breeding here. Often new hordes of hikers flee from the south as Suvi matures.

Sometimes it is possible to distinguish up close whether a small winged bird was born in the vicinity or on other lands. The locals are probably brighter and more intact than the guests who are shattered on the trip.

The orange, black-patterned Winged Vulture has been seen both on the edges of Antarctica and in the northernmost part of Lapland. The master pilot moves quickly, occasionally soaring and swirling.

The participants of the Finnish treks come from North Africa. Folding such a distance usually requires the input of several generations, i.e. the same individual does not push from the southern Mediterranean to the North.

This butterfly species lives a mobile life and moves to where there is food, in the spring to the north, in the fall to the south.

In the national day butterfly monitoring, the species are counted, and last summer the thistle butterfly was ranked 61st.

Since the 1990s, it has hurt the top twenty five times: in 2009 it reached third, in 2019 even number one.
