After announcing the cancellation of ‘Sálvame’ and ‘Viernes Deluxe’, the Mediaset España group continues with its image laundering and this Friday it has announced that it incorporates into its new code of ethics, an action protocol that will be imposed from now on in the reality shows or reality shows like ‘Survivors’, ‘The island of temptations’ or ‘Big Brother’. A movement that occurs with the change of direction of the chain and after several contestants have starred in fights, strong arguments or loud polemics and that even some of them have come to court as was the case of Carlota Prado, which ended with the 15-month prison sentence of the contestant José María López for sexual abuse of the young woman from Malaga.

New rules are included in this action protocol, which prohibit certain behaviors of the contestants and establishes a new way to select participants. In addition, it also establishes some rules to regulate coexistence and guarantee their health, physical and psychologicaland your well-being.

The new rules and prohibited behaviors of Mediaset reality shows

From now on, Mediaset España reality shows will be governed by an ‘Action Protocol’ who has joined his new ethical code and? affects all contestants who are going to have a group living or isolation for a period of time.

As reported by the chain in a statement, These rules and principles are mandatory aimed at regulating the coexistence of the participants and preserving and guaranteeing their health and well-being. Mediaset’s objective is to toughen its rules in reality shows.

The protocol consists of ten basic rules in three sections. The first section is dedicated to selection process, which defines the “ideal” profiles based on the type of reality show. The second contemplates “safe” environments for the participants in order to prevent them from being exposed to uncontrolled situations that endanger your physical or psychological health, and also provides prolong psychological assistance to contestants for at least two months after the end of the show. The third section is for the prohibited or reprehensible behaviors and attitudes of the participants and requires the implementation of sufficient human and technical resources to preventive control and reactive intervention with the aim of preventing such behaviors from occurring or being stopped immediately, activating in such a case the pertinent action, communication and complaint protocols.

The 10 rules for Mediaset reality shows and their contestants

The norms or rules that will be applied from now on and that affect the producer of the program and its contestants are divided into three sections and are the following:

Section 1 – Selection of participants

1- Before the production of the Program begins, Mediaset must jointly establish with the Production Company the character that will be printed on it (group coexistence, interaction, collaboration, dialectical or sports competitiveness, etc.) together with the objective of the viewing public to which it will be mainly and potentially directed, all with the purpose of to set un general profile of potential contestants/participants and, therefore, possible restrictions or age, physical, emotional, curricular requirements, etc.

2- The final list of participants/contestants must be expressly approved by Mediaset, which will have veto power based on objective and reasonable grounds.

3- All members of said list must have previously been subject to a reasonable risk analysis, which will include, at least, (i) a medical examination (physical and psychological) carried out by a specialized physician, who rules out any type of incompatibility; and (ii) an investigation in the family, professional or social environment in order to rule out aggressive or antisocial behaviors, chronic dependencies, etc. will be discarded all those applicants with proven record of violence of any kind in the five years prior to the selection process.

4- The entire selection process of the participants/contestants, as well as the verification of the aforementioned risk analysis, will be conducted by the Producer, being its sole responsibility; as will the collection, treatment and custody of your personal data, committing to the most scrupulous compliance with current regulations. To this end, the Producer undertakes to Obtain the prior and express authorization of all the aspiring Participants/Competitors, who, before joining the list that will be delivered to Mediaset, must be punctually informed of (i) the duration and characteristics of the program; (ii) the environment in which it will take place; (iii) the challenges to which they will be subjected; (iv) prohibited and disapproved conducts or behaviors; (v) the table of applicable sanctions; and (vi) of all those aspects that should reasonably be informed.

Section 2 – Safety and welfare of Contestants/Participants

5- The Production Company undertakes to adopt all measures that are necessary and sufficient for ensure safety and well-being (in the latter case, depending on the characteristics of the program) of the participants/contestants, committing to make available to them adequate assistance for the individual needs of each of them, in addition to medical and psychological assistance when so required or when, in the opinion of the Producer, it is necessary or convenient.

6- The Producer will avoid permanently that the participants/contestants are exposed to any kind of excessive risk or not properly controlled, all depending on the type of program and the limitations or personal characteristics of each participant/contestant.

7- The Producer undertakes to make available to the participants/contestants who require it psychological support for at least two months after the completion of the program.

Section 3 – Prohibited and reprehensible behaviors

8- The Producer expressly proscribe and prevent or stopwith all the means at its disposal, any behavior or manifestation capable of being considered as (i) because of sexual abuse, (ii) bullying, (iii) discriminatory by reason of gender, race, nationality, belief or religion, (iv) drug use, (v) physical or verbal violence; (vi) immoderate consumption of alcohol and the use of images of the contestants/participants under its influence, and (vii) any other that deserves general disapproval.

9- The Producer undertakes to have a human team sufficient in number and preparation that, divided into at least two shifts (daily and night) and equipped with the necessary technological infrastructure, can make a continuous and precise monitoring of the participants/contestants in order to (i) comply with the welfare and assistance recommendations, and (ii) detect any prohibited or reprehensible behavior and react immediately before it to avoid or tackle it. With this objective, the Production Company undertakes to keep an action protocol updated that (i) includes some indicators or descriptors that make it possible to identify and classify clearly the prohibited or reprehensible behaviors, and (ii) the procedure to be followed in each case is specified. Those ultimately responsible for this protocol may not be part of the editorial team.

10- The Producer will immediately inform Mediaset of any incident that occurs in relation to the health of the participants/contestants or any prohibited or reprehensible behavior; all this without prejudice to the fact that the behavior in question must be brought to the attention of the competent authorities, when appropriate. In any case, Mediaset has a complaints channel, completely anonymous, of whose existence the human team that the production company affects the production of the Program will be informed.
