This is the Lexus RZ 450e!: an “urban” electric car

This new model is not the first electric car from Lexus. At the end of 2019, the Lexus UX 300e became the brand’s first electric car, but it was the electric version of a hybrid model. The RZ 450e is a model developed from scratch as an electric car.

With the Lexus RZ 450e, the brand changes tactics. This model will not have a hybrid version, let alone a gasoline one. It is an SUV coupé of 4.80 m based on the e-TNGA platform designed to house exclusively electric models.

However, the RZ 450e is not an umpteenth clone of the bZ4-X. It is a model with its own design, it is 10 cm larger and offers, according to the brand, a more premium experience.

Specifically, the front engine develops 150 kW (204 hp) and the rear, 80 kW (109 hp). With its two engines, the RZ 450e has all-wheel drive Direct4 (introduced with the Lexus LF-Z Electrified) and ultra-fine torque management between the axles in order to guarantee a more dynamic driving, they assure from Lexus.

The Direct4 system allows a vector distribution of torque between the axles which, according to the brand, “supports predictive driving and is faithful to the driver’s intentions”. The RZ 450e accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 160 km/h.
