Musk is not the real designer of the Tesla

Indeed, there is on the one hand Elon Musk, known for his escapades on Twitter and who is convinced that technology and its unlimited development will save the planet. If in everyone’s minds, we imagine that it was he who imagined the Tesla, the story is very different. And for good reason : the real designer of the Tesla is called Martin Eberhard. The show Correspondent on France 2 has just devoted a report to him and was able to meet him.

Eberhard is actually the co-founder of Tesla but in the face of Musk’s charisma, his story has been somewhat forgotten. After training as an engineer, he decided to imagine the car of the future which is ecological and electric. However, at that time, when we talk about an electric car, we imagine a cart used for golf. It was then that he said to himself that he had to offer an electric vehicle that could offer as much luxury and performance as petrol cars. It is therefore in 2000 that he designed a first prototype of an electric car, but he had to face a lack of investment.

If the giants of the automotive industry laugh at his project, he can count on Elon Musk who will work with Martin Eberhard between 2003 and 2007. The duo goes like this develop the Tesla until the designer of the electric car is ousted from the company.

Mr Tesla does not live in bitterness

The story is not new since a thread on Twitter recalled the true epic of Tesla a few months ago by specifying that the company was founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning who were pushed out by Musk. The latter had reacted explaining that at the time he was product manager and took care of the design of the original Roadster. He also added that Eberhard had the means, but that he simply refused to risk putting his money into this project.

The two men have already found themselves in court. The designer of the Tesla claimed that Musk had been spreading lies since leaving the company and after having given himself the title of “founder of Tesla“. Eventually, the deal settles out of court for an unknown amount and the current Twitter boss gets the right to call himself the company’s founder. Despite this difference and the fact that Musk often disparages Eberhard by stating that he is “by far the worst person i have worked with in my entire career“, the real “Mr. Tesla” is not bitter. He even explains that he is “happy to have started this revolution“.
