The aim is to modernize the company along the lines of the surrounding countries, increase efficiency and improve customer service.

The first step will be to adjust the organizational structure and jobs. In the first phase, the cancellation of jobs or a change in the agreed working conditions will affect approximately 1,500 postal staff, and 756 redundant jobs will be lost.

After talks with the trade unions, the post office withdrew from the original plan to lay off more than 900 employees. The spokeswoman of the post office, Iveta Dorčáková, informed about it, stating that this is a long-term planned decision that is not related to the pandemic.

According to the spokesperson, this decision comes after preliminary negotiations with postal unions. The aim is to modernize the company along the lines of the surrounding countries, increase efficiency and improve customer service.

“Slovenská pošta currently employs 12,894 employees with work in all parts of Slovakia. Together with colleagues, we have prepared a comprehensive transformation plan, including digitization of services, modernization of logistics network infrastructure and increasing capacity in the parcel segment, reorganization and streamlining the delivery of shipments and other measures that will bring higher quality services to our clients in the future. For other jobs, there will be a change in weekly working hours or a change in the job classification of employees.

Employees who will be affected by the change in the organizational structure, but their job is not lost, but their working hours are increased, the basic salary will be increased.

They get severance pay

Slovenská pošta will offer the affected employees other suitable work and other vacancies will be intended primarily for redundant employees.

Each employee who decides not to accept another job offer will receive severance pay in accordance with the Labor Code and the collective agreement, depending on the number of years worked. The post office expects to pay 3.5 million euros in severance pay.
