Lajos Lőcsei, a member of parliament of Momentum, took part in the general assembly of the National Roma Self-Government for the first time. There was not much joy in him.
The general assembly of the National Roma Self-Government (ORÖ) started in an unusual way on Wednesday early afternoon: the band Chache Rom from Komló played the official anthem of the international gypsy (Gelem, gelem …) and then that song (Green is the forest, green is also the mountain…) , which is often referred to as the anthem of the Roma in Hungary.
Due to this, a solemn atmosphere moved to the headquarters of ORÖ. Did not last long. János Agócs, the chairman of the board, stated that according to the official register, five representatives – listed by name – have public debts, therefore they cannot vote according to the rules. Several stakeholders protested vehemently against the measure, but the president remained adamant. Agócs ordered a tension break right at the beginning of the general meeting.
In the sequel, it was obvious that pro-government Lungo Drom and the organizations acting with him now form a strong majority in the ORÖ. However, they could not live with this majority.
The agenda of the General Meeting included 12 agenda items, in the first place the presentation of Deputy Chairman Mihály Dancs on the dissolution of the National Roma Self-Government. It is suspected that Mihály Dancs did not seriously think that the board would liquidate itself, because he announced that he would like to see a vote on another 20 agenda items submitted by him. The content of these was not revealed, János Agócs – referring to the organizational and operational regulations (szmsz) – immediately refused to discuss the new proposals.
Others have interpreted szmsz differently. It was considered that, if the majority so wished, it was possible to put on the agenda the presentations presented on the spot. A heated debate ensued, which escalated to a roar spiced with obscene terms. János Agócs also kept himself in the noise that he refused to order a vote that was considered illegal.
On the other hand, the items on the agenda in the invitation were not voted on by the majority, although they included the adoption of the ORÖ’s budget. As there was no approved agenda, the chairman closed the meeting.
At the recent extraordinary general meeting of the ORÖ, as reported, at the request of János Csóka (Lungo Drom), the majority supported the initiation of an unfair trial in court against the president. János Agócs told our newspaper that he had initiated proceedings against the decision in response.
Lajos Lőcsei, one of the three opposition Roma representatives who won a seat in the Parliament in the April parliamentary elections, was present as a guest. He attended the ORÖ General Assembly for the first time. After closing the meeting, we asked you to rate what you saw.
The opposition politician said it was as if everyone had forgotten why he was a member of the National Roma Self-Government. “They forgot that they were sent there by ordinary gypsy people to work for them. I feel that their self-interest is more important than to really do something for the Hungarian Gypsies, ”stated Lajos Lőcsei.
The politician of the Momentum declared it unacceptable that the representatives of the ORÖ were still unaware of their rights several years after their election, not knowing what their duty was, how to speak. At the same time, his view is that the Roma self-government is not much different from the “big parliament, the Hungarian Parliament, where huge interests conflict with each other”. It is possible that the events in the legislature are a bit more cultured, because, he remarked ironically, “we have László Kövér, who fines the deputies millions for even a public shouting”.
Overall, Lajos Lőcsei called the style he experienced at the ORÖ general meeting unworthy.
