From Friday, the Schwechat oil refinery will be operating again at full capacity.

In addition to the 800 workers of the plant, 320 other experts, both from Austria and abroad, took part in the restoration of the plant unit damaged on June 3 and the start-up of a temporary additional department.

The damaged 100-ton column head was dismantled, the construction of the new elements in its place was completed at the end of September, and since then the restored part has been put into operation step by step. According to a statement by OMV, the owner of the Austrian refinery, the alternative system set up to replace the damaged equipment will not be dismantled for the time being, but will continue to be used for additional refining as long as possible.

The CEO of the giant company, Alfred Stern, expressed special thanks to the relevant Hungarian and Slovak authorities, who opened their reserve stocks during the weeks of the shutdown and helped to bridge the deficit and stabilize the supply. In recent weeks, news emerged that the Austrian refinery was not an accident, but intentional vandalism, but this was officially denied.
