It is already a crazy fact that we can say: Topolyai SC will definitely be in the European Cup next season, but there is more! The Vojvodina team, which is in second place in the Serbian league, is currently in the Champions League qualifiers, which in the worst case means the EL group stage, and if it slips back one place, it will even qualify for the Europa League. The icing on the cake is that TSC can also prepare with great strength for the semi-finals of the Serbian Cup, which they play at home against the reigning Crvena Zvezda.

“This year’s championship is one of the most interesting in recent years” – said Szabolcs Palágyi, Topolya’s club director, with a broad smile. “Not only is there a big fight for European places, but the final game of the cup also looks very interesting, and even the fight against relegation is going to be extremely exciting. But of course we are most proud of what an excellent season TSC is running.”

It wasn’t the wind that brought it together for Topolya

Last year, with the defeat against Vojvodina in the last round, it was decided that TSC could not play in Europe. It is a twist of fate that the Vojvodina derby will be held in the last round this year as well, but now the two southern clubs will be running from a completely different base.

“Last year’s defeat hurt, but we were able to let it go because we were like that, we’d rather build our team for this season, and the results – in fact, the game we showed even more – show that we’ve worked well since last year’s last round, since at the moment, TSC is soaring to historic heights.”

“We are not really proud of the results, but of the attractive offensive game that does not tolerate compromise, strives for victory in every situation, which characterizes our team.“We play good football, and this is recognized in Serbia as well, we get a lot of praise from everywhere. We also received comments from the two big teams in Belgrade that if we don’t play against them, they will support us, because everyone knows that we will bring the good news of Serbian football to Europe” – Palágyi said proudly.

The club director said that the club’s goal is still the podium, but of course they will do everything to keep the second place. For this, it is not necessary to collect more points than Cukaricki and Partizan, which is one of the reasons for holding the Serbian championship.

“We are tied with Cukaricki and four points ahead of Partizan, but we have the advantage over both teams from Belgrade that we finished ahead of them in the regular season. This is an “invisible” one-point forum, since in the case of the same score, the ranking achieved in the regular season is ranked, and in this we are better than both opponents.”

Life is four (or five?) games

Surprisingly, Topolya can even count on a particularly calm finish at the end of the upper house playoffs, since out of the three remaining matches, they will meet twice with opponents (Vozdovac and Novi Pazar) who no longer have a chance to reach the European Cup places.

“Both Cukaricki and Partizan are just waiting for us to make mistakes, so we cannot allow ourselves not to give everything in the remaining matches. I don’t deny that I’m optimistic, because our team looks very good, so even though the end of the season is busy, I feel that we worked for it to keep these two excellent teams behind us.” We have never played such a close championship, but not only do we play well, we are also strong and capable of the feat!”

In addition to the three championship matches, TSC also has a different task: the team from Topol will meet Crvena Zvezda, who have been champions for weeks and are outstanding in the Serbian league, in the semi-finals of the Serbian Cup. The duel will be decided in one match, and it will be held in Topolya.

“This year we were able to draw away from home with Partizan and Crvena Zvezda, although we lost our home games against them. The moment must come – and it will! – to beat them, and if the opportunity is here, why not do it in the cup?”

“Zvezda is an exceptionally good team, but even in the matches against each other we felt that we were close to them. They have already won the championship, so they are focusing all their attention exclusively on the cup! A very difficult match awaits us. And after the cup match, the most unpleasant guest appearance for all teams will follow in Novi Pazar.”
