Vaccination against covid-19 is taking place in Slovenia. So far, we have received almost 50,000 doses of BionTECH / Pfizer.
Thus, on 12 January, senior citizens were vaccinated at the Gospodarsko razstavišče.
16,500 doses are intended for healthcare professionals, 10,000 for the vaccination of the elderly aged 80 and over, who can come to health centers on their own. 1,200 doses of Moderna are also intended for healthcare professionals, but the amount will most likely be halved so that the vaccine is enough for two doses.
Family medicine clinics that will vaccinate the elderly over the age of 80 will receive about 10 doses. As explained by the national coordinator of the vaccination program from the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) Marta Grgič Vitek, age is the greatest risk factor for severe disease and death. Therefore, if there are more elderly people over the age of 80 in an individual clinic, the elderly will have priority. The clinics are supposed to invite the elderly themselves.
The doses of vaccine that will reach us next week will be used for those who have already received the first dose. We are promised between 16,000 and 22,000 doses of BionTECH / Pfizer every week. By the end of March, they are expected to receive about 245,000 doses of this vaccine.
From 27 December last year to 10 January, 21,159 people were vaccinated, and today, by 10 am, about 25,000 people have been vaccinated. The doses consumed were between 40,000 and 49,000. Vaccination among the male population is currently 0.6 percent, among women 1.4 percent. The larger share is due to the fact that there are more women among health care workers and residents of nursing homes. At the state level, about one percent of the population is vaccinated.
Grgič Vitkova also spoke about reports of side effects from vaccination. By January 10, they had received 54, by 12. 76. The majority, that is, 59, accounted for general problems and changes at the site of application. Seven were related to the gastrointestinal tract, four related to the immune system, three to the nervous system, the same number to the skin and subcutaneous tissue, two to the heart and one each to psychiatric disorders and the blood and lymphatic system.
She also pointed out that in principle it is considered that vaccinated people should get over the disease more easily, but she does not have concrete data from Slovenian homes for the elderly.
Otherwise, Grgič Vitkova let it be known that only risk groups will be vaccinated for some time. They hope that vaccinating the elderly will reduce mortality and the number of hospitalizations. They therefore aim to relieve the health care system.
She also touched on the confusion caused by vague information about vaccinations. According to her, those who belong to the risk group must register for vaccination with their personal doctor, although she said a little earlier that they will get in touch with their patients. Therefore, they should not apply through eGovernment – the latter, according to its understanding, should be intended for groups that are not at risk and as such will come later.
