During the Christmas weekend, large resources of the police were directed to fixing the accident, a representative of the State Police said on the air of the Latvian radio.

The Christmas weekend was relatively calm in terms of the number of traffic offenders, but there were many road crashes.
In general, from December 24 to December 26, 331 accidents were registered in Latvia, in which 41 people were injured.

Not without a separate category of drivers, behaving irresponsibly and driving in a state of alcoholic or drug intoxication. Over the weekend, 45 of these drivers were caught. In half of them, the concentration of alcohol on exhalation was more than one and a half ppm.

Increased attention of the State Police is paid now and not only on holidays to aggressive drivers: these reckless drivers in winter weather want to have fun, slip and deliberately make skids, endangering other road users. For three days off, law enforcement officers issued 43 administrative reports for aggressive driving.

This week, the State Police will continue to work in an enhanced mode, monitoring aggressive drivers, violators of the speed limit and motorists who got behind the wheel in a state of alcohol or drug intoxication.
