In the Czech Republic, there are stocks of syringes for the application of vaccination for 65 days, its chairman Jan Hamáček (ČSSD) told reporters after Wednesday’s meeting of the Central Crisis Staff (ÚKŠ). The analysis of the Ministry of Industry, which was commissioned by ÚKŠ, but revealed disproportions in the stocks of individual regions. If there is a shortage of material in a region, he should contact the Ministry of Health and obtain a loan from a teaching hospital, Hamáček added.
According to the December 22 version of the vaccination strategy, the Czechia expected 357,875 vaccines in January and 670,750 in February. The government will approve the updated version on Wednesday, but it is clear that the numbers will vary. Of the 80,000 vaccines that Moderna was to deliver in January, only 20,000 will arrive in the first month, now the first 8,400. up to six people because there is enough substance in them. The hospital needs one syringe to dilute the vaccine with saline and then one more for each vaccinee. The Ministry of the Interior stated that Hamáček based the calculation of stocks on the information presented by the Ministry of Industry and Health at the ÚKŠ meeting.
According to Hamáček, the state last year ordered stocks of material needed for vaccination against covid-19 in the amount of half of the expected consumption. The first deliveries should arrive at the turn of January and February. “Before the state reserves jump in, there are currently 689 thousand syringes for application and 793 thousand needles in the whole Czech Republic,” he said. There are almost 1.4 million dilution syringes, 680,000 dilution needles and eight million diluent solvents available, he added.
According to Hamáček, the Olomouc region has a supply of syringes for six days, in the case of the Moravian-Silesian or Pilsen regions it is four days. “These are cases where we will have to solve it very quickly with a loan from teaching hospitals,” he said. Logistics and transport will be provided by the Ministry of Health. 350,000 units are available in teaching hospitals. “So the solution in the form of a loan is possible,” he said.
According to spokeswoman Radka Miloševská, hospitals in Prostějov, Přerov, Šternberk and Jeseník in the Olomouc Region have stocks of syringes and needles for several weeks in advance. At least until the end of February, they should be enough. The other hospitals contacted also mostly supplied themselves. For example, according to director Petr Arenberger, the Royal Vinohrady University Hospital will have its own stocks at least until March.
Despite the uneven local distribution, however, there are reserves in the Czech Republic as a whole for the coming weeks and months, Hamáček added. “For syringes for applications, this is a 65-day supply due to the estimated consumption,” said the interior minister.
According to Hamáček, ÚKŠ also dealt with the situation regarding protective equipment against covid-19. “It came to our words when in the autumn ÚKŠ recommended on my initiative to increase the supply of gloves. It turns out that they are starting to be missing on the market,” he said. Thanks to the timely securing of supplies, the Czech Republic will not have a problem. “We have stocks in the warehouse and in deliveries for about four months,” he said. There are no such problems with other devices on the market. “We hold (stock for) two months of consumption,” he added.
