There is a huge problem in the social sphere, the KSH plays tricks with the data so that it is not visible

One thing can be read for sure from the cosmeticized data, according to an expert: that change is urgently needed.

100,000 people work in the social sector, their number is not officially decreasing, except that they play tricks with the data according to their profession, writes the People’s word. Sándor Meleg, the president of the Hungarian Association of Social Workers, told the paper about the summary that a deputy president of the Central Statistical Office (KSH) sent to Máté Kanász-Nagy, a member of parliament from the LMP:

The entire table is wrong, misleading, and not even in line with the conceptual system used in the profession.

It is not known, for example, whether the 100,000 people who work in the sector according to the table will find 120,000 or 90,000 jobs. Based on the numbers, it seems as if everything is fine, said Maleg, although there is at least a 15 percent shortage of family helpers. There is also no indication that there are boarding institutions with a 30-40 percent staff shortage. Nor are child protection institutions listed anywhere, even though the scandals of recent months have revealed the extent of the trouble in this area.

It can be read, said the expert, that there are few graduates in the field, but it is not really clear how many there are, since there is a row where they are listed together with those with secondary education.

Kindergarten teachers, who work in public education and are not employees of the social sphere, were classified next to the teachers of infants and young children – Meleg went on to list how the official data was embellished. And social workers, who are listed among other occupations requiring higher or secondary education, are also listed incorrectly, since no training parameters are prescribed for them.

It is also not known who is covered by the category of other clerks appearing in the table, just as the classification of physical occupations that do not require professional qualifications is not clear either. Could they be the cleaners and kitchen people? asked the specialist. But they are not the doggoers of the social sphere. Just as there is no such category as having other personal care occupations, because even the car driver works in the social assistance position.

The president of the Hungarian Association of Social Workers drew the following conclusion after seeing the data series:

Even if it is incomplete, at least you have some data in your hand about the urgent need for change.
