Thursday, the activities of the 85th International Federation of Sports Press Congress, which was hosted by the Korean capital Seoul during the period from 7-12 May, concluded with the success of our country, represented by the Yemeni Association for Sports Media.
The General Assembly of the International Federation unanimously approved the new statute, after extensive discussions by the member states of its new amendments, the most prominent of which was ensuring the independence of federations, associations, committees and member associations from government agencies as independent civil society organizations.
The Congress approved the granting of hosting the next version, which coincides with the founding anniversary of the International Association, in the city of Santa Susana, in the Spanish province of Barcelona, while South Korea will host the Asian Press Conference.
The work of the Congress witnessed many sessions and panel discussions, most notably the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the 2023 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and Australia, and the 2024 European Championship, in addition to artificial intelligence technology.
The second day of the congress also witnessed the announcement of the winners of the International Sports Journalism Competition, the AIPS Media Awards for this year, organized by the International Federation with the participation of the Qatar Sports Media Committee, as the number of participants reached 1830 participants from 138 different countries in different languages.
The Yemeni delegation participating in the activities of the International Congress, represented by two colleagues, Abdul Rahim Al-Oqab, member of the Board of Directors of the Yemeni Society for Sports Media, and Bashir Sinan, member of the Marketing and Investment Committee of the Asian Federation, held several meetings on the sidelines of the Congress activities, with Asian and international sports media officials.
These meetings included an explanation of what fellow sports craftsmen have been suffering in our country for years due to the almost complete interruption of official sports activity in large parts of the country, and the difficulties that sports media representatives face regarding foreign participation amid the complete disregard of the relevant authorities.
These meetings also included discussing ways of cooperation in the field of training and development between the Association and the Asian Sports Press Federation, and including Yemen in the training programs for the years 2023/2024 that the Asian Federation will organize in a number of countries.
The association’s delegation conveyed the greetings of the Board of Directors of the Yemeni Sports Media Association, headed by Dr. Saleh Hamid, to the president and members of the executive offices of the International and Asian Sports Press Federations, and his blessing on the occasion of the conclusion of the congress’ work.
