Inclusive baptism in the pool of La Vila

The Yahoooh! Martorell Diving Club i la Catalan Federation of Underwater Activities (Fecdas) they organized a day of underwater baptisms last Sunday morning, integrated in an inclusive diving project. The stage was the Swimming Pool of the La Vila Sports Complex.

The four participants in the baptism were members of the Isidre Esteve Foundation, an entity created by the Lleida pilot ten years ago to promote personal autonomy, improving the health and quality of life of people in a vulnerable situation through sports. They were accompanied by six Fecdas instructors – two of whom are members of Yahoooh! -, an accompanying diver and three Foundation monitors. It should be borne in mind that, for the correct performance of the activity, each baptized person must be accompanied by three instructors.

“They are inclusive baptisms, designed so that everyone can practice our sport, and that made the day very productive. The participants were very happy and had a great time, ”said Josep Anguita, vice president of Yahoooh !.

The motto of the activity was ‘Basically we are all equal and together, we add capabilities’, and is part of the Inclusive diving project of the Fedcas, which caters to “different groups, to make visible that everyone can dive despite having a physical problem or any other type, ”says Anguita.

La Fecdas has, since 2010, the recognition of the specialty of ‘adapted and inclusive diving’ and has already trained more than 50 instructors in this modality. In recent years, it has formed a work team to develop a plan of activities and training for groups of people with disabilities. Thus, monitor courses have been organized, 8 new instructors and 5 diving companions have been trained.

It has also established a collaboration with federated entities that want to contribute to promoting the practice of diving as a tool in relation to sport and the natural environment and as a tool in the process of rehabilitation and recovery of people with physical disabilities and / or psychic.
