The injured body of a newborn lying on the side of the road in Kamalnagar of Laxmipur has been recovered. The matter came to the notice of everyone when the dog was dragged on the road. No part of the newborn’s head can be seen. It was not immediately clear who left the child.
On Wednesday (January 13) at around 9 am, the locals informed the police after seeing the dog being dragged. The body of the newborn was found wrapped in a blanket on the Motirhat-Torabganj road in North Charlabranch East Mujibnagar of the upazila.
However, the police did not reach the spot till the report was written at 11 am.
According to local sources, the dog dragged the newborn wrapped in a blanket, scarf and lungi out of a black bag. Seeing this, the locals approached and chased away the dog. But before that, the newborn’s body was injured.
Rafiqul Islam, president of Awami League, Ward No. 2 of Charlerance Union, said a dog pulled a newborn’s body out of a bag. Seeing it from a distance, the dog was chased away. Meanwhile, the whole body of the child was injured. The incident is tragic.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kamalnagar Police Station Mohammad Nurul Abshar said on his mobile phone that no one has informed us about the incident yet. We are looking into this.
