The World Standard Dance Championships will take place in Brno today

Brno – The world championship in standard dances will take place in the Vodova sports hall today in Brno, for the first time it will be in the Czech Republic. 68 pairs from more than 40 countries will compete for the title. There can be a maximum of two from each country, with the Czechia being represented by couples from Brno. All couples must dance five dances, namely waltz, tango, waltz, slowfox and quickstep. The start of the competition is scheduled for 12:30 and from 19:30 the semifinals and finals are on the program, Jan Tománek told ČTK on behalf of the organizers from DSP Kometa Brno.

The World Championship is part of the 19th Brno Open and the competition also includes the Cup of Partner Cities, in which couples from Brno’s partner cities will compete. “The competition starts with 68 couples, everyone has to dance everything and they dance in groups that are six to twelve, depending on the stage of the competition,” said Tománek. After the first round, the starting field will be narrowed from 68 to 48 pairs and so on, leaving six pairs until the final. You always dance solo on the floor.

According to the organizers, the home couple who have ambitions for the final participation are Tara Bohak and David Odstrčil, the second couple in Brno are Marina Makarenko and Jakub Brück.

Spectators can buy tickets in advance, but also on the spot upon arrival. They must meet the requirements of anti-coronavirus measures. The organizers also prepared the possibility to test with antigen tests on the spot.
