According to Juta Varjas, chief specialist of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Health Board, 3,561 new cases were added last week, of which 1,316 were laboratory-confirmed and 2,245 were clinically diagnosed. “Compared to last week, the number of disease cases remained rather stable, increasing by 5.7%, the number of positive tests continues to increase especially in older age groups,” explained Varjas and added that the R, or infection rate, is 1.04 across Estonia. In the new week, we can expect a continued slight increase in the number of infections.

The morbidity rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days is 537.3 in Läänemaa. In the same time, Läänemaa has added 29 infected people. The average reading in Estonia is 556.8. The reading is the highest in Raplama County (715.7), the lowest in Lääne-Viru County (410.9).

As of Monday morning, there were 210 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, nine of them in intensive care. During the week, 6,694 vaccine doses were administered, of which 196 new vaccinations were started. 481,175 people have received additional or booster doses. Coverage of the entire Estonian population with two vaccine doses is 63.6%.

Based on the results of the wastewater monitoring of the 39th week, 52% of the virus spread in the wastewater is at the orange danger level. 39% of settlement samples are at the red danger level. The most virus particles were detected from the averaged samples in Ahtme and Sillamäe. The fewest virus particles were detected among the averaged samples in Põlva and Kuressaare. Compared to the previous week, the proportion of samples in the red danger level has increased somewhat.
