Prague – 60 percent of Czechs, ie 6.4 million people, are vaccinated against covid-19 with at least one dose of the vaccine. The completed vaccination is 57.8 percent. The last percentage, about 100,000 vaccinated, has increased in ten days. Another 88,800 are waiting for the vaccine, are registered for vaccination or have a reserved date. This follows from data from the Ministry of Health. Since the beginning of October, almost 343,000 people have been newly vaccinated.

The Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (for YES) said on Monday evening after the resigned government meeting that the aim of all proposed anti-epidemic measures is mainly to increase vaccination coverage. It has to develop several variants of measures by Thursday, from the end of the recognition of antigenic tests to the restriction of the free movement of unvaccinated people.

Currently, the deadline for the second dose of the most common Pfizer / BiONtech vaccine is 21 days after the first dose, and experts say that the protection, which is sufficient to serve as a covid certificate, is 14 days after the second dose. The Janssen single-dose vaccine from Johnson & Johnson is 14 days after administration, but new studies show that protection appears to be shorter after vaccination. The Ministry of Health is also considering a shortening. Since the beginning of October, 100,800 people have been vaccinated with Janssen.

According to experts, people over the age of 65 are at higher risk of a serious infection. From the beginning of October to the middle of November, about 28,000 of them came for the vaccine. According to the ministry, there are still 60,000 unvaccinated people over the age of 80 who are not even registered for vaccination, 131,000 people in their seventies and about 116,000 people aged 65 to 69.

On the contrary, 526,500 people have received a booster dose in the last month and a half, making up more than half of the doses given at this time. By the end of October, about a million people who were on the second dose of vaccination before the end of April were eligible. According to vaccinologists, the booster dose is needed especially in the elderly, whose protection decreases after several months after vaccination. Last week, a group of MeSES experts proposed shortening the revaccination interval from the current six to five months.

Interest in vaccinations has been rising again since about mid-October, when the number of positive people began to grow significantly again. At the same time, stricter measures were announced from 1 November, which concerned shortening the validity of negative tests and ending the reimbursement of testing by unvaccinated adults from public health insurance.

Since the beginning of November, the proportion of people who are vaccinated, have a reserved date or registered for vaccination, has increased from 59.2 percent of the population to 60.8 percent. The biggest differences between the beginning of November and its half are in the younger age categories. Currently, 33.5 percent of children aged 12 to 15 are fully vaccinated, with another 7.9 percent of the population receiving the first vaccine or waiting to receive it. For people aged 16 to 29, it is 5.8 percent of the population, for people in their thirties under 34 it is 4.6 percent and for people aged 35 to 39 it is 3.8 percent.

But about three percent of people over the age of 80 and about two percent of people in their 70s are also waiting for the vaccine, the most vaccinated age group.

So far, the highest interest in vaccination in the fall was on Friday, November 5, when 57,751 doses were given. Last week, more than 43,000 were served each day, and over 52,000 on Friday. On Monday, November 15, paramedics administered about 39,000 doses.
