The USA and its partners introduced a new package of sanctions against Russia

The US and its partners announced today that they have imposed new sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine, intensifying the toughest set of sanctions ever implemented. According to the new package of sanctions, mechanisms and individuals that help Russia avoid sanctions are targeted, then future revenues from energy sources and military-industrial supply chains, reports Reuters.

“Today’s actions will further tighten the grip on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ability to carry out his barbaric invasion and advance our global efforts to end Russia’s attempts to evade sanctions,” said US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

The US Treasury’s announcement states that sanctions have been imposed on 22 individuals and 104 entities with contact points in over 20 countries, while State Department sanctions are directed against nearly 200 people, entities, vessels and aircraft.

The sanctions have been extended to several sectors of the Russian economy, including architecture, manufacturing and construction, the Ministry of Finance announced. The Biden administration has also halted exports of a wide range of consumer goods to Russia and added 71 companies to the Commerce Department’s “entity list,” which prohibits suppliers from selling them American technology without a hard-to-obtain license, the agency said.
