The upcoming Fallout series will not retell the game’s story

Amazon is currently working on a television adaptation of Fallout, and according to leaked images, it looks like the series will be almost identical to the game, at least visually. However, the creators decided on a slightly more open approach to the story. In a recent interview, Bethesda’s Todd Howard, who is an executive producer on the series, talked about it.

“We’re telling a story here that fits into the world we’ve built, doesn’t break any rules, may refer to things from the games, but isn’t a retelling of them. It exists in the same world, but it’s its own unique thing, so it will bring something new. At the same time, even people who haven’t played the games and have no idea how crazy cool Fallout is can watch the series,” said Howard.

After all, it was precisely this approach that convinced Howard to embark on the series. “In the past, when people wanted to make a movie, they always wanted to retell the story of Fallout 3 or Fallout 4, and it wasn’t really exciting. Here, on the other hand, the creative team came up with the idea that they wanted to try something new,” Howard mentioned in the podcast.

It actually doesn’t sound too bad. The main story has never been Bethesda’s strongest point. If the authors manage to create something original and interesting, we potentially have something to look forward to. The world of Fallout offers really rich possibilities to go crazy, especially the concept with individual experimental vaults sounds like a great opportunity. At this point, however, we know very little about the series.

The first official image features Vault 33, a vault that does not appear in the games. However, we will have to wait for what the creators have prepared for him. As in the official release date.
