Prime Minister Kaya Kallas confirmed that the task given to the Ministry of Education and Science to draw up an action plan in the field of Estonian-language education can be considered as preparation for the transition to education in the state language, writes rus.err.ee.
Opposition deputies of the Riigikogu Raimonds Kaljulaid, Riina Sikkut, Heljo Pikhof and Eduard Odinets approached Kallas with a relevant question regarding the action program of the Estonian government for 2021-2023, who wished to know about the launch of an action program in the field of Estonian-language education and whether this program can be considered a preparation of the government for the transition to Estonian-language education?
Callas replied in the affirmative, stating that this will happen no later than 2035.
According to her, the Ministry of Education and Science is still drawing up a plan, and at such an early stage, the Law on Basic Schools and Gymnasiums will not change.
Callas emphasized that this action plan should be understood exactly as it is written: that an education action plan in Estonian is launched in order to give everyone an equal opportunity to participate in social and work life, as well as to continue their studies at the next educational stage.
