Iveta Barková, a director and teacher of Slovak language and history from the Private Primary School in Senec, became a teacher of Slovakia 2020.
Barková was not only awarded by a professional jury, but also won the Public Award. The teacher and co-founder of the school, Felix Dávid Králik, won in the newly created Distance Teacher category.
This year, the organizers also asked the finalists for a DNA sample, which they sent for analysis to a laboratory in Germany, where they investigated their genetic and personality predispositions. Genetic analysis of the winner confirmed the predisposition to excellent memory and great ability to recognize faces. In practice, according to the organizers, this means that he knows all the children in the school by name. DNA analysis also showed that eight out of ten teachers were predisposed to straight brown hair. And also, for example, that two of the finalists can drink a lot of coffee, because their body can process caffeine at a high level without toxic effects.
The Teacher of Slovakia award is organized by the Comenius Institute. The aim of the award is to emphasize the importance of education and strengthen the status of the teaching profession. The project takes place under the auspices of the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová. “The Teacher of Slovakia award gives me the opportunity to thank all your colleagues who excel in their activity and innovative approach to education. You are an inspiration to us, for which I sincerely thank you, “she said.
In the third year of the award, the organizers received 1,101 nominations and 164 applications. The jury selected ten finalists from 129 teachers and 35 teachers. In the selection, she took into account the educational achievements of students, cooperation with pedagogical institutions, extracurricular activities or the way in which the teacher passes on his experience to other colleagues.
