Prague – Representatives of the state and the Central Bohemian Region will today sign a memorandum on opening the cottage of the writer Bohumil Hrabal in Kersk in the Nymburk region to the public. The cottage appeared in the offer of a real estate agency in the summer. The cottage will probably be bought by the region, the state should help with the operation and content of the future exposition, representatives of the governor’s office and the ministry said earlier.

Contributory organizations of both institutions would participate in the preparation of the exhibition dedicated to Bohumil Hrabal and the subsequent operation – for the Elbe Museum region, for the Ministry of National Literature Memorial.

Today’s meeting at the headquarters of the Central Bohemian Region will be attended by the Minister of Culture Lubomír Zaorálek (ČSSD), the Central Bohemian Governor Petra Pecková (STAN) and the Regional Councilor for Culture, Monument Care and Tourism Václav Švenda (Allies).

The real estate agency offered the cottage for sale for 11.9 million crowns. The offer attracted both the region and the ministry. After mutual negotiations, the governor’s office wants to acquire the cottage where Hrabal lived and worked, and build an exhibition reminiscent of his life, work and relationship to the recreational settlement of Kersko.

The regional council will decide on the purchase of Hrabal’s cottage at the November meeting. The price has not been set yet.

Kersko is part of the village Hradišťko in the Nymburk region. Neighbors from the cottage settlement Kersko were Hrabal’s model for the book Snowdrop Festival, according to which the film of the same name by director Jiří Menzel was made. The writer bought the cottage in 1965. The childless Hrabal left the cottage to the neighbors.
