The SPD has again proposed the introduction of a minimum pension, now CZK 15,200 per month

The submitters estimated that by introducing a minimum pension, the state would spend an additional 55 to 60 billion crowns a year on pensions. “The aim of the proposed legislation is to enable older people to live in reasonably dignified conditions,” they wrote in the explanatory memorandum.

According to the amendment, only people who have worked the years necessary to be granted a pension would be entitled to a minimum pension. They would have to apply for a minimum pension. The draft excludes from the claim people who own movable or immovable property from which they would derive taxable income.

In the last election period, the SPD movement advocated the introduction of a minimum income in the amount of the monthly income poverty line. Last year, this limit for individuals was 13,640 crowns per month. The Chamber of Deputies did not discuss the proposal until the elections.

According to SPD deputies, care allowances should increase in the first and second degree of dependence on the help of others. The current level of contributions for people with mild and moderate dependence is “absolutely insufficient” and cannot ensure the acquisition of appropriate qualified care or aids, the authors stated in the justification of the draft. They estimated the budgetary impact at 4.5 billion to five billion crowns a year.

According to the amendment, people under the age of 18 in the first degree would receive 4950 crowns instead of the current 3300 crowns per month and in the second degree of dependence 9900 crowns per month instead of the current 6600 crowns. Disabled adults would receive CZK 2,640 per month in the first instance and CZK 6,600 in the second instance. Now these contributions amount to 880 crowns and 4400 crowns.

Both amendments will first be assessed by the government. They will be decided by the legislators.
