The Slaves of Jean Genet by Apparatus are hosted from October 11 and every Monday and Tuesday at 21:15 for 15 performances at the Alma Theater.
As for the Slaves, one critic once said that the slaves did not “speak like that”. And yet, they talk like that, but only for me, and for me only at night, at midnight “.
A night of fantasies and illusions, among flowers, dresses, sequins and furs… The Lemercier sisters, the maids, like every night, when they are alone, imitate their Lady with her slave. Every night… A game, a “ceremony” that leads to the “death” of the Lady and the majestic domination of the Slave. But what happens when the fantasy of murder becomes a real desire and a blueprint for a crime?
The play reveals the most frightening thoughts of two girls and the power of envy that a weak man can exert. What salvation does the soul choose when it realizes that what it hates most in the other is the reflection of itself? Is there salvation or a quagmire that only death can redeem? “This is a monster story,” said Gene.
In the play the play of the Lemerciers changes, the theater in the theater is enlarged and the symbol of what the slaves would like to be, the “Lady”, is slowly built in front of the spectator and becomes a man who acts in reverse in the self-destructive course of the Lemerciers: a A man consciously chooses to dress in the image of the Lady and calmly transforms into the perfect idol, a female queen of her world, the protagonist of today’s monster society.
The inaccessibility of the image of the Lady makes the Lemercier sisters incapable of any further action and leads them into an inner labyrinth centered on bipolar crime and holiness.
