The second day of the 30th ODS Congress

The Civic Democratic Party will elect a new leadership on Saturday, April 9. On the second day of the 30th Party Congress, the delegates will elect a chairman and all party vice-chairmen. Chairman Petr Fiala will defend his mandate. The elections of the executive council and other ODS bodies will follow.

The Congress of Civic Democrats was originally scheduled to take place on January 15, but was postponed due to measures against the covid-19 epidemic. The congress is organized by the ODS regularly after two years. Most recently, on January 18, 2020, Fiala defended his mandate by gaining the support of more than 90 percent of congressional delegates.

The Civic Democrats went to the October parliamentary elections together with the People’s Party and TOP 09, after the elections they formed the government team together with the coalition of Mayors and Pirates. The Together Coalition won the House elections over the YES movement by 0.67 percent, representing 35,765 votes. It was the closest difference between a winner and a second in the history of the lower house. He has a total of 71 seats in the House, the second YES by one more. The third PirSTAN won 37 seats.

According to the latest election model of the Kantar CZ agency, the parliamentary elections would now be won again by Spolka, which would vote for 32.5 percent of voters, more than in the October elections. The YES movement would end second with a gain of 27.5 percent. A coalition of Pirates and STAN and the SPD movement would also get into the Chamber. In a survey conducted in the second half of February and early March, support for the Spol coalition strengthened by almost five percentage points compared to the election results, mainly thanks to the ODS. If the parties ran alone, the most votes would be YES with 25 percent of the vote, followed by the ODS, which would get 21 percent of the electorate.
