Prague – The season of the first football league will end a week earlier than originally planned. The superstructure part of the highest competition will culminate in the fifth round on 14 May. As a result, the representatives will have 14 days off before the four June matches of the League of Nations. The change was approved by the league clubs after it was previously agreed by the representatives of the League Football Association (LFA) with the Football Association of the Czech Republic (FAČR) and the national team management.

The change began mainly due to the fact that representatives from elite Czech clubs did not have enough rest after a demanding last season. For example, the league champion Prague Slavia, whose support did not have an ideal form in the qualification of the Champions League and the European League, paid for it. The Red and Whites failed in the preliminary rounds and only play in the European Conference League group.

“The reason for the change is the experience of Czech teams competing in European Cups in previous seasons. Players of elite clubs will be able to relax before the important June national team event and after that they can immediately participate in clubs in preparation for the new season and important fights in European cups, “said LFA President Dusan Svoboda.

“I would like to thank the FACR management and the Czech national team for their supportive attitude. I firmly believe that this is a compromise that will benefit everyone,” Svoboda added in a press release to the LFA, which manages professional competitions.

The deadline could be adjusted due to the fact that the quarterfinals of the MOL Cup domestic cup had already been moved to February. Thanks to this, a place was created for the inserted 30th round to take place in mid-April of the week. Subsequently, the five-wheeled superstructure will start and the new champion will be crowned no later than May 14. On Monday, May 30, the national team will begin, during which the Czech team will play an unusually four matches in the elite group A of the League of Nations in June.

The beginning of the spring part of the first league remained unchanged, the highest competition after the winter break will start around 20 on the first weekend of February. Due to the adjustment of the date of the cup quarterfinals, the semifinals and finals of the MOL Cup, which will culminate on May 4, have also been postponed. The term list of the second league was also modified. In the highest competition, 15 out of 16 participants voted for a change, one club abstained.

Slavia praises the adjustment of the term list. “We thank the chairman of the FACR, national team management, LFA management and all clubs for a constructive approach to changing the schedule. We managed to combine rest for UEFA participants, the interests of the Czech national team and enough time to prepare. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Slavia Jaroslav Tvrdík.
