International Space Station.
At the International Space Station (ISS), the Russian oxygen generator Elektron-VM has failed again.
According to the TASS agency, a member of the current crew of the orbital complex, Sergei Ryzhikov, informed the Russian ground flight control center (CUP) about this.
According to a communication recorded on the website of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Russian cosmonaut CUP announced that information about the “electron” failure appeared at 18:18 Moscow time (16:18 CET). The device is installed in the Zvezda module of the Russian section of the station.
The Russian space agency Roskosmos has assured in the past during similar events that the crew of the twenty-year-old station is not in any danger. Roskosmos told Interfax that after the equipment was repaired on board and the computers were restarted, the system should work again.
TASS recalled that the Elektrón-VM orbital station supply system had already shut down in October last year. The problem was eliminated, while during the repairs the station was supplied by a replacement system located in the American section. In December, however, the Russian generator stopped working again.
The crew of the International Space Station currently consists of Russian cosmonauts Ryzhikov and Sergei Kudi-Sverchkov, NASA astronauts Kate Rubins, Shannon Walker, Victor Glover and Michael Hopkins and their colleague from the Japanese space agency JAXA Soichi Noguchi.
