The rickshaw puller is now an English lecturer

Poverty has never restrained the true genius. His best example is Mominur Islam (30) of Kurigram. In the family of a day laborer father, eating at Petpur for three hours was a challenge for them. It was nothing but a luxury to continue studying there. Mominur fulfilled his dream by eating half of that poor family. He had to go to Dhaka and Comilla to drive a rickshaw to continue his studies. Had to do daily wages. Most of the time he did not get a chance to sit on the bus seat. Due to paying less rent, I had to cross the road to Dhaka. This brilliant young man has recently been recommended as a lecturer in English at Kurigram Alia Kamil Madrasa after standing third in the merit list in the NRC Teacher Registration Examination. Not only the family, but also the local people, friends and teachers were shocked by the news of his becoming a lecturer. Blessings on his success.

It is known that Mominur is the son of day laborer Nur Islam of Madhyakumarpur Sappara village of Bhogdanga union of Sadar upazila of the district. Mother’s name is Maina Begum. He is the eldest among three brothers and sisters. In 2009 he passed SSC in Humanities from Madhyakumarpur High School and HSC in Science in 2011 from Bhitarband Degree College of Nageshwari Upazila. After that he completed Honors and Masters in English from Kurigram Government College.

Mominur Islam said that due to lack of education had stopped. Because my parents could not afford the cost of education. As a result, I was forced to start working as a day laborer and driving a rickshaw. I used to drive rickshaws secretly in Keraniganj, Dhaka, avoiding the eyes of local residents and friends. I used the money that was earned for personal and book purchases. Sometimes I went to Comilla to work in the fields with my labor brothers from the area. But I never gave up. Disappointed but not deviating from the goal of study. So I request to the students from needy families, you will never break down. Will do daily wage if necessary to continue studying for his future. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Your indomitable will will help you reach your goals. Mominur’s dream now is to become a BCS cadre. He is moving towards that goal.

Mominur’s father Noor Islam said, I used to manage my family as a daily wage worker. I can’t give anything to this boy. He went to college after taking some clothes from others. He has studied by laboring by himself. After hearing about his job, I raised my hands to God and just cried. May this child of mine be happy. So that other children don’t suffer like my child.

Mominur’s mother Maina Begum said that she had to walk from home to school and college with great difficulty. Later I collected an old bicycle from my father’s house and gave it to my son. The boy is happy with that. I could not feed my son well. Allah raised his eyes. All of you will pray for my son.

Kurigram Government College Principal Mirza Md. Nasir Uddin said, Mominur is a brilliant student. He stood third in the merit list from across the country in the 16th Teacher Registration Examination. On March 10, he was appointed as a lecturer in English at Alia Kamil Madrasa, Kurigram. During our college stay we supported him as much as we could. He succeeded in the rest by his own indomitable will power. We think other students will be excited to see Mominur.
