The representative from Bruntál confessed in court to statements in support of the Russian invasion

Bruntál – Bruntál representative for the SPD Daniel Makay confessed today at the District Court in Bruntál to spreading statements approving the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He wrote on social networks that Russia would disarm “Ukrainian fascists” and that it should drop a nuclear bomb on Ukraine. But Makay defended his statements in court with misinformation that fascists are active in Ukraine and that the Ukrainian government is letting Russians be killed. The representative claims that his statements were directed exclusively against alleged Ukrainian fascists.

“Putin is simply a fighter. I believe that he will succeed in disarming the ukro-fascists,” Makay wrote on his Facebook profile. In another post, he stated, for example, that he would also use a hydrogen bomb of lower tonnage. The public prosecutor therefore accuses him of approving the crime and denying, questioning, approving and justifying genocide. Makaya faces six months to three years in prison.

Makay posted posts and comments on Facebook from a business trip in Africa. In front of the court today, he described himself as an anti-fascist and an anti-communist. “I don’t understand at all why freedom of speech is restricted. It was all directed against fascism in Ukraine, nothing was against the Ukrainian people. I have friends in Ukraine, I took humanitarian aid there,” he said in front of the court today. According to him, it is clear that there are fascists in Ukraine. “The Ukrainian government does not intervene against them, it lets the residents of the Russian Federation be killed,” he said in court.

The mayor of Bruntál, Petr Rys, testified before the court today. The city management distanced itself from his statements. He said a number of people contacted him after Makaye’s post was published. “They called on us to distance ourselves from the statements. Some demanded that we exclude him from the council. But that is not possible,” he said. The posts had a negative effect on him. “It pissed me off,” he said.

The main trial is still ongoing. It is possible that the judge will deliver a verdict today.
