The movie star was laid to rest forever near a lake, with only the inscription Burt Reynolds on its black tombstone. There will also be a bronze or stone bust of the actor at the tomb, which is scheduled to be unveiled in September, the third anniversary of his death.

After Thursday’s funeral, the grave was covered with a wreath and flowers, and a fan of the actor placed a mini version of the Trans Am car known from his film Smokey and the Bandit on the tombstone.

Reynolds died at the age of 82 on September 6, 2018, in a Florida hospital. He was cremated a few days later, and two weeks later a small circle of his family and friends said goodbye to him at a Florida ceremony.

The actor’s kinship did not disclose why they waited more than two years to bury his ashes. Reynolds’ legacy is cared for by his niece, Nancy Hess. The legal and financial proceedings around the estate came to an end in December.

Founded in 1899, the cemetery is located on Santa Monica Boulevard, next to the Paramount Pictures studio.
