The rebirth of an icon: The Aston Martin DB12

The golden age of British luxury is back and stronger than ever. The year 2024 marks an important year for Aston Martin, with the celebration of its 110th anniversary and the launch of eight new models in the next 24 months. The DB12 is based on the DB11, with the same basic structure and powertrain. However, the bonded aluminum body structure is 7% stiffer overall, and stiffness in the front suspension towers has been increased by 140%. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, designed and supplied by AMG, has been modified to increase power to 671 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and torque to 590 lb-ft between 2,750 and 6,000 rpm. The engine connects to the rear wheels via the familiar ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, reprogrammed to improve response and shorten shift times.

The DB12 also offers a standard brake setup that includes drilled and slotted steel discs, and as an option, carbon ceramic brakes that save a total of 60 pounds. Standard wheels are 21-inch, and the DB12 marks the debut of Michelin’s new Pilot Sport S 5 tire, designed specifically for Aston Martin and promising to reduce road noise by 20%.

The integration of all these components is achieved thanks to a new software, which allows combining four stability control protocols with five driving modes: GT, Sport, Sport+, Individual and Wet. This new system allows more subtle adjustments to the powertrain and chassis, improving anticipation and reducing the intervention of the stability control system, which gives greater precision and control to the driver.

The interior of the DB12 is a true revelation. The redesigned dashboard features two 10.3-inch high-resolution screens with ultra-black display technology, one for the instrument panel and one for the infotainment system. The interior design, with its abundance of Bridge of Weir leather, is both special and functional. In addition, the PRND button layout across the dash has been replaced with a simple, more ergonomic switch on top of the center console.

The DB12 also introduces a new software architecture developed entirely in-house, which aims to offer levels of functionality and connectivity never before seen in Aston Martins. This software enables aerial updates and diagnostics, as well as online features and a new Aston Martin app that allows owners to personalize content on screens that match the new in-car user interface.
