“The strict regulation during periods of extreme volatility has never worked”, say energy market specialists in relation to the maximum price ceiling of 1,300 lei/MWh that entered into force last year and is valid until 2025. The decision to introduce this ceiling came after last year energy reached a price level of over 3,000 lei/MWh, so that this year it will reach a negative price, including in Romania. What are the consequences?
“Probably there will be an intervention on this ceiling, but on the other hand what do we do? There are companies that still have to recover losses from last year, also coming from regulations. You can’t always change things. We see again that a strict regulation, designed for long periods, in periods of extreme market volatility does not work”, say energy market specialists in relation to the drastic price drop, quoted by ZF.
Moreover, heightened volatility may become the working scenario in energy for the coming years.
“If last year we saw the importance of long-term contracts, now again we see reluctance to conclude such agreements”, says Lăcrămioara Diaconu-Pințea, country manager of OX2 Romania.
“But, really, the market is becoming more and more sophisticated, I can say that now we are entering a normal level of development of the local energy market”, says Lăcrămioara Diaconu-Pintea, country manager of OX2 Romania.
