The PP appeals part of the euthanasia law when it considers that there is legal insecurity

Members of the Right to Die with Dignity association.

The PP has denounced the legal insecurity of the euthanasia law, which comes into force this Friday, and has appealed to the Constitutional Court five articles of the rule and an additional provision.

The PP considers that it is a “great irresponsibility” and a “great falsehood” to defend euthanasia as a free option when the indispensable palliative care has not been developed and argues that “if there is no alternative, there is no freedom”.

For this reason, it is committed to a palliative care law to “universalize the rights and guarantees of the dignity of the person in the final moments of life.”

He also denounces that the experts have not been listened to and warns that the Bioethics Committee has taken a position against the law. “It has been approved without the contribution of the opposition, with the absence of technical, legal, medical and bioethical reports. There has not been a public hearing, nor a true social demand that demands this law ”.

It also criticizes the way in which the law regulates conscientious objection of health workers – it establishes the creation of registers of objectors in the autonomous communities – considering that it is “black lists” and a way of limiting conscientious objection.

Thus, the PP has appealed to the TC Articles 16; 5.1.d; 3b; 5.2; and 9 of the law, in addition to the fifth additional provision considering that they violate constitutional rights such as the right to life, ideological and religious freedom.

And it also believes that it violates the rights of people with disabilities, by promoting the so-called “slippery slope” and setting up an “advance consent regime incapable of safeguarding the protection of vulnerable people.”
