Prague – The index of the anti-epidemic system PES remains at 70 points out of a hundred. On the fifth day, he stays in the fourth degree. Most parameters have improved since Sunday, but the reproduction number has increased slightly. It follows from data Ministry of Health. Measures against coronavirus in the Czech Republic, which follow the index, now correspond to the strictest fifth degree. The Minister of Industry, Trade and Transport Karel Havlíček (for YES) said on Prima television on Sunday that the government will discuss the move to the fourth degree around Wednesday.

The reproduction number showing how many people on average infected one positive test increased from 0.68 to 0.71. On the contrary, among the parameters on the basis of which the PES index is calculated, the share of hospitalizations, the average number of infected per 100,000 inhabitants in two weeks and the fortnightly average of diseases among the elderly per 100,000 inhabitants decreased.

The PES index fell to the level of the fourth degree after the Christmas holidays, then for three days. From December 30 to Thursday, it remained above the limit of the fifth degree. At the beginning of January, it reached up to 90 points, which was the highest value of the index since its introduction last autumn.

Measures against the spread of the disease in the Czech Republic have been governed by the fifth degree since 27 December. For a possible mitigation, the PES index must remain in the lower band for at least seven days, which could occur on Wednesday. After that, the change is evaluated by an expert team of the Ministry of Health. Until now, the government has mostly introduced changes to the measures only after the PES has remained at a better or worse level for longer than the prescribed deadlines.

Havlíček emphasized that the key to deciding on a possible mitigation of measures would be the development of the epidemic situation in the coming days, as well as the situation in hospitals. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) told Czech Television (ČT) that from Tuesday they will be able to open a stationery store, shops with clothes and shoes for children and shops with underwear. However, he does not expect further mitigation yet, according to him, the number of hospitalized is still high.
