The onslaught of Yamaha’s Three New Models in the Indian Market

DAPURPACU – Yamaha India has officially introduced a premium entry-level model, the FZ-X, with a neo-retro street fighter concept. In addition, two other scooters were introduced simultaneously.

The scooter surprise was in the form of a Fascino that carried hybrid technology, as well as a Yamaha Ray ZR 125 with several refreshes on its features in the form of LED technology embedded in the front and rear lights.

The Yamaha FZ-X has a physical resemblance to the XSR 155 marketed by Yamaha Indonesia. Three color options are offered, namely blue, silver and gray, carrying a 150 cc engine.

The features that are paired are claimed to combine classic concepts with the modern era, such as LED headlights plus DRL, LCD panel on the speedometer and Bluetooth connectivity to connect several motorcycle features with smart phones.

The retro feel is also highlighted through the embedding of round headlights, fuel tank, ‘tuck and roll’ concept seats, higher handlebars and front shockbreaker cover.

Yamaha India plans to start shipping the Yamaha FZ-X to consumers who order it by August 2021.

Carrying Hybrid Technology
The Yamaha Fascino 125 gets a significant update in the kitchen sector, with the introduction of hybrid technology, namely the Smart Motor Generator (SMG).

Yamaha said that the technology in the SMG which now has an additional function is to adopt a hybrid system. Basically this system works as an electric motor, which provides additional power when driven from a standstill or climbing an incline.

Later, the driver will get a notification in the instrument cluster when the power assist function operates. However, this system only provides a burst of power for three seconds.

Or in other words, after the required or specified rpm needle has been passed. So in fact, there is no additional power to the specifications with the hybrid system.

In addition, the weight has not changed remains 99 kg. The Fascino 125 is still equipped with the same engine as before with an abundance of 8.2 hp and 10.3 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm.

SMG also provides other benefits which include a silent start and auto stop start system. This system helps fuel economy compared to before, which reached 57 km/liter in urban areas and 64 km/liter on the highway.

With these results it is claimed to make the Fascino one of the scooters with Euro 5 emission standards (BS6) with the most fuel efficient 125 cc engine ever present in India.

Meanwhile, from the appearance, Yamaha also refreshed some of its components in order to answer consumer complaints which said that the Fascino 125 was too ‘poor’ in features.

The additional feature is in the form of LED headlights with a crossbar design DRL in the middle. The V-shaped taillight cluster remains the same but is now equipped with LEDs, replacing the bulb type.

In addition, the Fascino 125 also has Bluetooth connectivity with the same layout as the cluster meter on the Yamaha Ray ZR 125.

Yamaha Ray ZR 125

Using the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect X app, riders can answer calls, locate scooters, record trips and recent parking history.

For braking, paired discs at the front and drums at the rear which are supported by CBS (Combi-Braking System) as standard.

Variants with disc brakes are available in new colors Vivid Red Special, Matt Black Special and Cool Blue Metallic. While the drum brake variant gets a Yellow Cocktail color.

Especially for the Yamaha Ray ZR 125, Yamaha India plans to expand Fascino’s new hybrid technology to the Ray ZR 125 in the near future. [dp/MTH]
