The Institute of Agricultural Economics is is one of the oldest and most reputable scientific research organizations in Serbia. The Institute actively participates in the implementation of long-term projects of the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection, as well as agricultural sector adaptation projects implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia in the process of joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the European Union. The guest of Better Country was Jonel Subić, Doctor of Economics, who is also the director of this Institute.

The institute turned 70 in 2019 and is trying to follow what is current on its path, which is currently sustainable agriculture, ecology, as well as digitalization in agriculture and smart systems. The Institute of Agricultural Economics has excellent cooperation with the Mihajlo Pupin Institute of Robotics.

The goal of the Institute is to get closer to family farms, as a system that should improve their knowledge, and then to be more profitable, recognizable and competitive.

The projects that the Institute is working on are numerous. One of them is research within the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development. These are strategic planning projects in the areas of agriculture and rural development. They have long-term plans that work for local self-governments. In addition, the Institute has excellent cooperation with smaller farmers, which is aimed at greater education on agriculture, which also concerns cost management. Namely, with the help of other institutes, they developed software for creating a business plan in all areas of agriculture, crop and livestock production, as well as in the field of processing. These software are very helpful and easy to use.

The Institute, in cooperation with other Institutes, has developed new devices, mobile systems that use energy from renewable sources, robotic systems, wind turbines and water turbines. Through sustainable development, they focus mostly on ecology and the economy.
