The nominations for the annual Czech Lion Film Awards will be announced in Prague today

Prague – The Czech Lion will announce the nominations of the annual awards of the Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA) in Prague today. Press Voting academics began last December. The ceremony of announcing the results should take place on March 6 in Dvořák’s Hall in Prague’s Rudolfinum.

Over 300 film professionals evaluated 22 feature films, seven animated films and 18 short films in the 28th Czech Lions. Out of a total of 32 documentaries this year, the commission selected 15 films, but one of them did not meet the conditions for screening in cinemas for some time due to kronovavir measures. Academics also voted on ten television works. Every year, the CFTA Presidium appreciates the extraordinary contribution to Czech cinematography and can also award an award for an extraordinary achievement for audiovisual.

The annual Czech Lion Awards will be presented by the Academy in 21 categories this year. The creators of animated and short films can now also take home the statue of the Czech Lion. There are also changes in the categories for television projects. The creators of television films, miniseries and series can also be newly awarded in the categories of best acting performance in the main and supporting role, as well as in other categories, such as camera or music. Until this year, these were intended only for feature films or documentaries. Both television categories are also open to works distributed over the Internet.

Last March, the film of 2019 became a film by Václav Marhoul Painted Birds. The film, based on a novel by Jerzy Kosiński, went to battle with 11 nominations. He turned eight of them, including the one for the best film, the best direction and the best camera.
