The new theater group Somnis performs at El Progrés under its auspices

Presentation of the new theater group Somnis

Somnis is the name of a new theater group made in Martorell, and which this Friday was presented in society at El Progrés, an entity that will host it under its umbrella. It was in front of about 150 people, with the musical show Party Temp. An assembly made in playback and accompanied by choreography, which has staged the different moments experienced by our society with the pandemic, moments of anguish and hope.

The embryo of Somnis must be sought in some thirty people from the La Vila Seniors’ Leisure Center with theatrical and musical interests, led by Francesc Querol. “We rehearsed at the Esplai, which is a great place but it was a bit small and we had problems with movement and choreography, and also every time we had to go to El Progrés to perform the productions,” says Querol .

It is at this point that “the possibility arises of linking ourselves and becoming the theater group of El Progrés. They proposed it to us and we accepted ”. A change that has brought many improvements: “The new conditions are good, because in El Progrés we can rehearse in peace and they have left us some spaces upstairs that are ideal for storing materials.”

On the other hand, El Progrés had been pursuing the idea of having its own theater group among its activities for some time. The president, Joaquim Gotsens, emphasized that “it was very complex to find a director, artists and volunteers, it meant a lot of work. Since we had a connection with espali, we commented on linking everything. So they already have a place to rehearse and they are under our umbrella and we already have a company set up and we can start doing activities ”.

The premiere was made with the play TempFesta: “we conceived it when the Covid-19 seemed to disappear, and contrasts the sadness and cruelty with the joy of recovering our usual normal life, the effect of the pandemic on people and all of a sudden the release of this state of anxiety to return to a stage of happiness and normal life ”.

Francesc Querol, director del grup de teatre Somnis

empFesta has started with the majesty of Carmina Burana to bring the sad and dramatic tone of the pandemic accompanied by languid movements and blue and cold lighting, which then has been transformed into warm light and the notes of the dance of the Quadrilla de Martorell. In the meantime, as Querol explained, “a very tall white lady has appeared, who represents health, and who has read a manifesto for everyone to cheer up and come back.”

The current members of the group, as well as young dancers, took the stage. And it is that, as the president of El Progrés explains, “it will be a group in which we want people of all ages who are members of the organization to be able to participate”.

In addition, the Somnis d’El Progrés theater group also wants to open up to other local associations. Francesc Querol states that “We want to propose to El Progrés and the City Council to create a cyclical show in which groups and associations from all over Martorell would perform: choirs, theater groups, musicians and individuals, and also to award the activity of some groups and people who have done unique things in Martorell ”.

Querol adds that this proposal will soon be put forward by both the management of El Progrés and the City Council and, if accepted and carried forward, the aim could be to make a first assembly in June.
