The new owner distributed the dismissals to most of the employees in the Ečka fishpond
Out of about fifty employees in the Fishermen’s Farm “Ečka” from Lukino Selo, 43 workers were declared redundant and fired.
The new owner paid them severance pay, as well as everything that the previous boss, the company “Mirotin grupa”, owed them.
Let us remind you, the company “Matijević agrar”, through its company “MPZ Agrar”, in the middle of last year became the majority owner of the Fishermen’s Farm “Ečka”. Namely, by taking over the company “Mirotin Group” from Vrbas, businessman Petar Matijević became the majority owner of several Vojvodina companies, including the “Ečka” fishpond.
Now, the former commissioner of the Independent Trade Union in this fishery, Nikola Mazurenko, says that among those fired are fishermen, workers in the tourist branch, as well as the administration.
“Most of them are older workers, but there are also young people with less age and experience. As far as I know, the guards of two lakes intended for sport fishing have remained to work “, Mazurenko points out.
According to him, the new management conducted a survey, in which thirty employees answered that they did not see a future in the company. Although he is the union commissioner, Mazurenko says that he did not have more serious communication with the new management.
“Personally, I did not expect to stay at work, because I worked at the Sibila Hotel, which was closed immediately after being taken over by the new owner. Those who are not in direct production, have been working as lake keepers in recent months “, states Nikola Mazurenko.
Fishing from the great lake this year passed in silence, although it has been an event for the whole city in recent decades. There are younger people in the White Lake for the next production, but it is difficult to say now whether there will be any production at all.
One of the oldest and largest fishponds in Europe
The pond “Ečka” is located about fifteen kilometers from Zrenjanin, in the triangle of the rivers Tisa, Begeja and Tamiša. It is one of the oldest and largest in Europe. The centuries-old tradition of fishing in this area has created a kind of brand – “Ečan carp”, large fish of exceptional quality.
As for the hotel “Sibila”, which worked within the Fishermen’s Farm “Ečka”, the new owner published an advertisement for the lease of this catering facility, located near the famous picnic area Carska bara. The ad states that the area of the building is 1,400 square meters and that the hotel has a restaurant and garden, equipped kitchen and accommodation capacity of 36 beds.
