Ford has introduced a new generation of Mustang, which is now equipped with advanced technology, but also the famous five-liter V8 engine, six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive – all the things that made it an icon.
The base 2.3-liter engine remains on offer, and Ford has not yet released power, torque or fuel consumption figures for any of these units. The announcement states that the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine is “completely new,” while the five-liter engine is the fourth generation of the famous Coyote V8 engine.
The four-cylinder Mustang will now only be available with an automatic transmission, since in the final years of the current generation, only 10% of buyers combined this unit with a six-speed manual transmission. A 10-speed automatic will be standard on the V8-engined version (which accounts for around 40% of GT spec sales). Both transmissions transmit power to the rear wheels only.
In terms of technology, fun new features include the ability to start the engine and rev up the engine remotely with the help of a key, and there’s also a new electronically controlled drifting mode. Ford promises that with this technology even amateurs will be able to drift like professionals.
Ford will offer 12 types of wheel designs, multiple colors of Brembo brake calipers and numerous body color options, including a bronze series.
Fine-textured leather and plastic were used for the finishing touches in the cabin, with a greater focus on the quality of the materials. Several types of upholstery are offered, there is a possibility of different colors for belts with asymmetric stripes, as well as for seams. The lower part of the steering wheel is flattened, and rounded screens for the instrument panel and multimedia arrive in most trims.
There is a 12.4-inch screen for instruments and a 13.2-inch screen for multimedia, both of which are directed towards the driver. The software is a combination of Ford’s Sync 4 system and Unreal Engine technology. This enables the application of more advanced graphics with superb animations in a high number of frames.
The new Ford Mustang will arrive in showrooms in the summer of 2023 as a 2024 model year.
