The negative “covid” test does not give the right to those who come to Latvia to avoid self-isolation

According to the expert, it is now very important to prevent the spread of the new strain of coronavirus to other countries, since it is more infectious than the previously identified variants of Covid-19.

Many countries have decided to require a test done at a specific time to enter the country. It is standard practice that the sample must be returned 72 hours before leaving the country to ensure the safety of passengers.

Given that the incubation period for Covid-19 is 14 days, even with a negative test, there is a risk of eventually becoming infected.

“We see the risks in the fact that, having arrived from any country, a person takes the test, not yet knowing that he is infected: he travels by public transport to the place of self-isolation. It is better to identify a potential infected person in a timely manner, after which the person must comply with all safety measures, ”Perevoshchikov said.

So the presence of a negative test result does not mean that a person can do whatever he wants. The test only shows that there was no specific virus number. Let’s remind: the incubation period is 14 days. This does not exclude that the test was carried out at an early stage in this period.

“A person can become infected after taking a test for Covid-19 or while traveling. So the presence of a negative test does not free a person from subsequent self-isolation, ”Perevoshchikov said.
